dostdoctoral/Research Fellow in Theoretical/Computational Plasma PhysicsSchool of PhysicsReference No. 139335Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral (Level A) or Research (Level B) Fellow in Theoretical/Computational Plasma Physics in the School of Physics, working with Federation Fellow Prof. Peter Robinson and Australian Professorial Fellow Iver Cairns.

The successful applicant will work on modeling nonlinear and stochastic wave processes, including strong turbulence and wave scattering, employing a mix of theoretical and computational approaches, and interacting with a large group interested in space and laboratory plasmas. The group has excellent computational facilities and provides a stimulating research environment, with wide international research collaborations. For more information see: http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/complex-systems

Essential Criteria at both levels: 1. A PhD (or thesis submitted before applying) in theoretical/computational plasma physics, or closely related field. 2. Experience in mathematical modeling and scientific computations. 3. Proven research ability and evidence of potential and self-motivation. 4. Demonstrated written communication skills, including publications in refereed journals. 5. Ability to work cooperatively with others.

Desirable Criterion at Level A, and essential at Level B: 6. Experience with plasma turbulence and/or wave scattering calculations. Desirable Criterion at both levels: 7. Ability to start work by March 2009.

This position is full-time, fixed term for 2-3 years initially, with possibility of extension up to 4 years total, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period, performance, need, and funding. For more information and to apply, please visit http://positions.usyd.edu.au/tiptop1
