Carnegie Mellon University Bi-costal Ph.D. Program in Silicon Valley
CMU Bi-Coastal Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering
We are pleased to announce the Ph.D. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a focus on mobility offered through CyLab. ECE Ph.D. students affiliated with CyLab's Mobility Research Center will typically divide their time between the ECE department's Pittsburgh and Silicon Valley locations.
This exciting new program allows Ph.D. students to complete all or part of their studies at the Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley campus. The initial concentration of the program is on mobility, networking, and security (in embedded systems, sensor networks, etc.).
All Ph.D. in ECE requirements apply, with a few modifications, such as allowing time in Silicon Valley to count as residency. The supervisory committee for Silicon Valley Ph.D. programs has at least one faculty member from both the Pittsburgh and the Silicon Valley campuses. For more details, visit http://www.ece.cmu.edu/prospective/graduate/phd
To apply to the MRC, please check the "Mobility Research Center" option in the "Other Interests" section of the http://www.ece.cmu.edu/prospective/graduate/admissions.html
The fall admissions deadline is December 15th
PHD positions in Bioinformatics @ MSU. US
PHD positions in Bioinformatics @ MSU. US
One or two PhD positions are available for fall 2009 in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Michigan State University, USA. Successful applicants will enroll as TA or RA with monthly stipend. The main research direction is bioinformatics.
Being a rapid-growing interdisciplinary area, bioinformatics is full of exciting challenges. At MSU, a varienty of research projects in bioinformatics are being conducted by faculty from different disciplines. PhD students will have opportunies to collaborate with researchers not only from Computer Science, but also from the departments of molecular biology, plant biology, and mathematics.
Recently, the graduate program of CSE has been ranked 18th in the USA among all computer science graduate programs in an article published in Communications of the ACM. MSU enjoys a large, park-like campus with
outlying research facilities and natural areas. East Lansing, the home of MSU, is located directly east of Lansing, thecapital of state of Michigan. East Lansing is known as a safe, beautiful, friendly city with very reasonable living cost.
Applicants should have a Bachelor or Master degree (or expect to receive the degree before Fall 2009) in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related disciplines. Applicants with a strong mathematical background and/or hands-on experiences with bioinformatics are particularly welcome to apply.
To apply, please complete the online application by following the procedure at http://www.cse.msu.edu/?Pg=18&Col=2, and indicate your interest in Bioinformatics in the academic statement. After submitting the applicaiton, email your application number to Dr. Yanni Sun (yannisun@cse.msu.edu) with subject "PhD applicant". For more information about possible research projects, please visit http://www.cse.msu.edu/~yannisun/.
